How We Work
Project Management
The secret of Skylight’s success is a strong focus on both creative and project management. Modern video projects need to be strategic, eye-catching and compelling, which means juggling key messaging, production crews, budgets, timelines, edits and deliverables. Skylight has tactically deployed the skills within our organization to handle the complexities of any project to ensure that the result is a beautifully filmed, meticulously crafted video that is on-message, on-brand and on-budget. Our methodology for managing your project is in alignment with project management best practices, including time, cost, quality and risk management. Consistent communication with our clients is critical to ensure projects are progressing on scope, time and budget. We communicate with our clients through weekly project update emails, phone meetings and face-to-face meetings.
Strategy Meeting
We start with an initial Strategy Meeting with all stakeholders. This meeting is a brainstorming style session that includes both creative and marketing strategies. We gather ideas, review inspiration videos, set goals for the individual commercial and overall campaign and gather data on the personas of the audience. We use this information to develop a Creative Brief and Project Plan, including detailed deliverables, schedules and milestones, budgets, and communications.
Scripting and storyboarding
At this stage, we begin to fill out the ideas developed in the brainstorming session. Our team writes scripts and creates storyboards for your review. This stage is critical and includes three rounds of revisions to ensure the messaging is laser-focused, the visuals are dynamic, and we are setting the stage for an exceptional production phase.
Production and Post-production
One of the most exciting parts of production is filming as our crew work to capture all the shots detailed in the storyboards. Following production, we craft a first rough cut that we send via email link through an easy-to-use online video review software called Vimeo. Vimeo enables our clients to view and annotate the video as you would a PDF or Word document. This way, multiple stakeholders can view the video and provide feedback when their schedule allows and see feedback that other team members have provided. The rough cut will not have a proper colour or sound treatment and may have a temporary soundtrack and visual effects, but it gives us a chance to discuss shot placement, flow, edits and general feel of the video.
Once you have submitted all feedback, we create a second rough cut. We then repeat this process for a third rough cut, and then again for the final cut. The final cut is the stage that includes all final colour grading and sound mixing.
